Uttara University
Background & History:
The development pattern of Bangladesh has been turning to the service sector as indicated by its increased contribution to the Nation’s GDP. Expansion of quality education is sure to meet the Bangladesh’s social, economic, business and service sector need for qualified individuals. A striking fact is that a large number of students have been spending substantial amount of the country’s foreign exchange to study abroad in the field of various disciplines. Moreover, students from middle- and lower middle class families who do not have access to the higher education in business and computer science will be able to have education in these fields at this university. The university is committed to provide quality education at a relatively low cost. The organizational structure of the university will consist of (a) founding members, (b) governing body, and (c) an advisory board consisting of distinguished persons in the education, management, health and social sectors.
Dr. M. Azizur Rahman, founder of Uttara University, ex. Economic Advisor of the U.S. Embassy (Dhaka), a renowned academician of the country and an eminent Economist of International repute, alumni of Vanderbilt University, a Nobel Laureate School in USA, possesses ingenuity in national education platform that benefits the students who want to build up their sustainable career in modern global market. In this spirit, he formed a set of learning where meritorious and enthusiastic students are benefited by using their merit with qualitative ingredients which are offered by his institution.
‘Uttara University’ began its journey with the hand of DAR TRUST, one of the few philanthropic financial institutions of the country with a specific mission of academic pursuits. The members include educationists, industrialists, economists and businessmen of eminence and recognition.
Dr. M. Fazlul Haque is the Chairman of the Board of Governors. Dr. M. Azizur Rahman is the Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the Syndicate of Uttara University.
Uttara University, as approved by the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh aims at quality education. The university has been established under the Private University Act of 1992 and the amendment to this Act in 1998 has been approved by the Ministry of Education and subsequently recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The university has been successfully in operation since April 22, 2003.
Convocation
1st Convocation
The First convocation of Uttara University held on 16th June, 2009. The Chancellor of Uttara University and the honorable president of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh Md. Zillur Rahman will preside over the convocation program. In the convocation program 1088 graduate and undergraduate students will receive their certificate. Professor A. A. M. S Arefin Siddique, Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University will be present as the convocation speaker.

A Brief Resume of Library Mission
We exist as a resource to expand the learning potential of students and citizens of our state and to enhance the teaching and research capabilities of our faculty.
Vision
We will be the best performing land-grant university library as measured by resource access and use by UU students, faculty and the citizens of the state. We will deliver these resources in a user-friendly and service-oriented manner. Our constituents will consider us the preferred provider of learning and research information.
Financial and academic facilities
UU provides scholarships for meritorious students. In addition, UU offers special financial support to poor students.
UU has a two library, computer laboratories, digital laboratory, English language laboratory, physics laboratory and other necessary facilities.

The university established two campuses in Uttara, Dhanmondi. Its central campus is situated at House 4& 5, Road 15, Sector 6 of Uttara Model Town in Dhaka. The largest number of students of is here. The distance mode education programs of the university operate from this campus, and the university’s administrative activities are governed from this site.
